Serial Killer Charles Manson Dies At 83

The sinister hippie cult leader and serial killer Charles Manson, who proclaimed himself the Devil died Sunday night at 83 in a California hospital, state officials told NBC News.

The cult leader who ordered his numerous disciples to commit a series of Hollywood murders in 1969, died at 8:13 p.m. (11:13 p.m. ET) at a hospital in Kern County, said a spokeswoman for the state Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

According to slaughtered actress Sharon Tate‘s sister, Authorities called victim’s family members less than 20 minutes after his death to inform them that the infamous murderer has passed away

One could say I’ve forgiven them, which is quite different than forgetting what they are capable of. It is for this reason I fight so hard to make sure that each of these individuals stays in prison until the end of their natural days.” Tate said.

For many Americans, Manson was the living embodiment of evil, and he was even dubbed in the seventies by Rolling Stone magazine “the Most Dangerous Man Alive“.

Sentenced to death in 1971 for commanding the brutal murders of Tate and six other people, the Manson family’s leader was spared two years later and was sentenced to life behind bars when California did away with the death penalty. Later, Manson survived being severely burned by another inmate who poured paint thinner on him and set him ablaze. But in the end, the incorrigible inmate repeatedly ran afoul of prison officials for drugs and other offenses.

Behind bars for 46 years, Manson born Charles Miller Maddox on Nov. 12, 1934, in Cincinnati, still exerted his magnetic influence over medias and continues to intrigue generations of people. By law, Manson was required to have a parole hearing every 7 years but would never be allowed to leave jail.
