CHICAGO – A third man was charged for the killing of 17-year-old Leonard Anderson Aka L’A Capone outside of a Grand Crossing recording studio in september 2013.
Meiko Buchanan, 23, of the 600 block of West 60th Street, has been charged with first-degree murder for the Sept. 26 fatal shooting which took place in the 7000 block of South Stony Island Avenue, according to Cook County court records.
Sakhee Hardy-Johnson, 17, and Michael Mays, 21, were charged in Anderson’s killing earlier this month.
Anderson left the studio where he had been recording music around 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 26 and went down an alley when he was approached by Hardy-Johnson and Mays and was shot twice, Molesky said at their bond hearing this month.
Buchanan admitted to being a Gangster Disciple Met Boy gang member and that he was aware of an ongoing dispute with Anderson’s gang, according to Molesky and court records.
A plan was hatched to shoot and kill Anderson, and Buchanan was tasked with driving the “trail car” from the scene, which would follow the lead car containing the gunman, Molesky said.
Buchanan said the trail car follows the lead car containing the shooter on the way to and from the murder scene, providing a buffer should police pursue the lead car, Molesky said.
Buchanan admitted to pulling into the alley and watching the gunman sneak up on Anderson and shoot him twice, Molesky said.
Buchanan also admitted to fleeing after the shooting, trailing the lead car in his own vehicle, she said.
Meiko Buchanan, 25, was convicted of murdering L’A Capone in September. Capone, born Leonard Anderson, was shot and killed at age 17 while leaving a studio on Sept. 26, 2013.
Buchanan was transported from Cook County to Menard Correctional Center in early November.
Menard Correctional Center is the same prison where L’A Capone’s close friends RondoNumbaNine and Cdai are incarcerated.
On Tuesday, July 5, RondoNumbaNine was sentenced to 39 years in prison for the 2014 murder of cab driver Javan Boyd. On Thursday, July 7, he was transferred to Menard Correctional Center in Menard, IL to serve his time.
